"Sherrill itís been about 10 years since I last seen or talked to you. We served together in the United States Marine Corps, Camp Pendleton, Ca MWSS-372 96í-00. I was sorry to hear about your passing. You were truly a great and wonderful man with an infectious smile. A big teddy bear, who always lent an ear and always made the best of everything. I don't remember a day when you were not smiling. Whenever any of us were down you always went out of your way to cheer us up. Thank you for your sacrifice. I am truly honored to have met and served with you. RIP Marine.

"I did not know James, but I could tell how much he was admired by the outpouring of soldiers that came into the hospital where we received him that night. I was trying to be the strong one for those in his command that were watching us trying to revive him. I was told later as I was packaging his belongings that the beautiful lady in his wallet was his fiance and that she was having their child. That is when I broke down. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and his child."
SGT Lee of Tikrit, Iraq

"To the Sherrill family,
My heart goes out to all of you in the loss of James. God has a big plan He is preparing for everyone. I guess this was the time for James to sing with the angels and praise Our Father in Heaven. Our loss is great but the gain for the future is magnificent. I remember James,David"Tug Boat" and the other guys who graced my supper table from time to time. It is hard for me to understand why these precious lives are gone, but again, this world is in God's hands, not ours.
May God sustain all of you and give you grace. May the future bring calm reassurance to all of you.
Love through Christ Jesus Our Lord."
Bonita Reed of Brandenburg,KY

"James,
Thank you for leaving me with nothing but good memories. 13 years ago you befriended an angry army brat who did not like the idea that her parents had chosen to retire here. You were the first person who ever spoke a word to me here and we quickly became fast friends. We became even closer when I married into the family and it always made me proud to tell people that you were now a part of my family. Before I married Arnold I had no brothers, but on the day we were married I felt like I had you, Rod, Jas, and B.J. the best brothers anyone could want. I will desperatley miss your phone calls, visits, and most of all just seeing your smile. You had a big heart and to me you will always be my hero. Until we meet again dear friend!! With all my love...."

"Man I was thinkin back on all the times that we had after school cruzin town and football, gettin everyone together for a few games in my side yard!!!! Crazy to hear that you were KIA. It seems like it was just the other day that you stopped by my place and said that you was out of the military!!! I couldnít believe it when I was watching the news and they said that a Ky Guardsman from Brandenburg was killed over the weekend and then they showed your Pic....... I was lost for words. Its still hard to think that we was at GSI working together and you talkin about that you was in school and was tryin to be a detective!!
