"Hello any family member of John Travis, I am with the Student Veterans Association@USF.

We want to start a scholarship fund with name of a USF student who has been killed in action. This scholarship would be for future USF student veterans.

We discovered John Travis by searching on the USF Oracle archives.

However, to establish the scholarship, we need the family's permission.

Could someone from the family contact me at RodrickColbert@gmail.com?

Thanks and we appreciate John's service to this nation."

As long as I live there will be atleast one person on this earth thinking of you. I love you man."

"Patti,
I knew Travis in high school. I didn't know what happened until I left active duty Army and returned to Gainesville in 2004. I'm very sorry. As a soldier, I know that he knew what he was doing was the right thing and felt very proud of it. He is definately a hero, not only in our eyes, but surely in the Lords. God Bless You and your family.

We think of you and remember you daily Travis. We are all so very proud of you, you are and always have been our hero.

"JELLY BEAN POEM FOR EASTER

RED is for my love for you that will never sever...
For love is not measured by the time we had together...
But what's in our hearts forever.

GREEN is for memories that I always will treasure...
Although, time may pass...our memories will last...
forever and ever and ever.

YELLOW is for sunshine that you have given me...
You brightened up my life and made my world shine...
And will continue to shine brilliantly for the rest of time.

ORANGE is for the candles flame I light in memory of you...
Flame that glows so bright as I speak your name in prayer...
Asking God to hold you close...until I join you there.

BLACK is for my grief from my broken shattered heart...
Taking each day one at a time...as I keep your memory alive...
Life is different...I am different...but its so hard to survive.

PURPLE is for tears I shed as I remember you...
Precious memories you left behind...preserved deep inside...
You will always live on through our family...forever by our side.

White is for my hope and faith in God above...
The promise of resurrection...knowing we will reunite...
Above the clouds...over the rainbow...in His everlasting light.

PINK is for the signs you send from Heaven up above...
Lighting my path where I go...and whatever I may do...
My precious son... My Travis...I will always love...and always remember you.

Remembering you on Easter....and ALWAYS.

LOVE, MOM"

"October 17, 2004

Even now, over a year and a half later, I think of Travis and grieve for his family. I lived in the same neighborhood with him when he and I lived in Gainesville and remember him jogging laps around the neighborhood. I remember talking with him late at night with only the sounds of chirping frogs to keep us company as his footfalls echoed on the pavement, my bike chain gently clacking as I rode along beside him. I remember a feeling of peace and security, as though nothing could ever go wrong in our two very seperate worlds.

I'll be honest, I didn't know Travis as well as some - he moved to Tampa a few months after our late night exercises but what I knew was he was dedicated to serving his country, it drove him, it inspired him and it inspired others around him. He was kind, even to complete strangers like myself, and had a good sense of humor. While I was only given a glimpse of who he was, it was a profound experience and I will remember his sacrifice for the rest of my days.

Thank you Travis for your sacrifice, your honor, your dedication, your love of all that our country stands for. May we never cheapen the loss of you or others by forgetting what you fought for and believed in - freedom for our country and others. You are missed so much."
C. Van Vleet of Clearwater, Florida, USA

"We have dedicated a paver brick engraved to honor you at the Safety Harbor Veterans Memorial. This is in front of the Safety Harbor marina and pier, a place where you spent many happy days.
Remembering you on Memorial Day and every day."

"Travis: I love you and miss you always. When, I get bogged down in the saddness I try to think of the crazy things in life as you would. They say only the good die young . . . so, it will probably be a good while before we see each other again (just kidding). I know things are not always as they seem and still trying to sort them out. I'm doing my best not to let you down bro. One phrase that I have been working on "everyone will die but not everyone will live." I know you are watching so I am working on the living. Maybe not to Travis standards but . . . Trav, I know at times I seemed hard on you but I learned a lot from you too. Your spot can never be replaced and even now your light shines too brightly to be extinguished.
Oh, yeah, all of the philosophy stuff I think you were right."
Terese of Tennessee/USA

"In Loving Memory..Its been a year..

At the rising of the sun and at its going down, We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter, We remember them.
At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring, We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer, We remember them.
At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn, We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends, We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live;
for they are now a part of us, as we remember them.
Rest in Peace Dear Soldier!! We will NEVER FORGET!"

"Travis was a very special and loving young man. He is missed deeply by his family. I know that Travis is with God, along with my son, Spc. Jeffrey Mattison Wershow, who also died serving his country in Iraq. Jeffrey called me from Iraq when Travis died, and I told him then that Travis' big arms were encircled around his platoon and would look over them. Now, Jeffrey and Travis both have locked arms to keep their buddies safe. Blessings to the Gardham and McIntyre families."
Anne Marie Mattison of Gainesville FL

"My family and I wish to thank all of you that have posted messages to honor Travis. Travis was proud of what he was doing for his country. We were proud of him. He was always our HERO and the center of our lives. There are no words to tell how special Travis was, how much he is missed and what a void he leaves. He was my only son and my baby. He was such a loving son, brother, grandson, and uncle.
We will miss his big HUGS.
We will never forget his SMILE.
We continue to pray for all our men and women that are still in harm's way.
Once again thank you for all the kind words."
Patricia Gardham, Travis's mother

"I think of you everyday Travis. I hope you can hear me tell you good night right before I fall asleep. I want you to know that your fish Frank is doing well and we are taking good care of him. Lindsay continues with her studies and struggles through the days on campus without you. I was saddened to see that Karsen's beautiful letter came back unreceived by you last week. I pray that doesn't mean you never got the rest of the packages either. I know my cards got to you but I dont know about the care packages. Our lives will never be the same without you here. We will never forget you and the joy you brought our family. We love you."

I wasn't someone he knew personally, but there was a beautiful memorial that the men from his company made. It was touching and the best way the men could cope with it. I hope it gives you strength to know that. I was deeply saddened to think that someone who lived that close to me touched my heart on so many levels.
