"SSG. Pettaway,
On this day, it is an honor to remember a good soldier as well as a good human being. Even though it's been said before, it bears repeating: I feel privileged to have had the honor of serving under your leadership during wartime in Iraq. During that time, you taught me many lessons about life and self respect and gave me the strength to serve with pride and courage. I, as well as many other people whose lives you have impacted, will never forget you and will honor you on this and every Memorial Day. Thank you, Sergeant, for making a difference in my life.

Sincerely,
Guillermo Valdivia"

I had the privilege of knowing SSG. Pettaway for a short time, He was a great leader, He taught me so much. He never let me stop giving anything my all. This is one thing I will never forget. In the time I knew him I learned so much from him.
