"Jay, I've struggled to leave you a message because of the guilt I carry. My islander brother Ill never forget you taking me under your wing when I got assigned to 3rd AAV. So many great memoried on OKI but when we deployed to Fuji we became close. The fact that over a year later we would not see each other until we ran into each other in Fallujah 2 weeks before we were both suppose to return was a blessing. But when I got back I could not except the news. I didnt believe it, didnt want to except it. I still dont. My boy Guam. Itook for granted our time spent but now I miss you. You will always be in my heart uso. Our island jam will always be FIJI smoking session. Love you uso"

"I think of you everyday man. I remember the day you came to the fleet. I remember you when you also came to 2nd platoon when I was finally put back on the ramp. You made the ultimate sacrifice for the land of the free and the home of the brave. I am sorry I was not in Iraq with you. I was proud to have served with you and the news of yor death has gotten to me everyday since I heard. You were my crewmen but also a great teacher and follower all in one. No one could have asked for a better Marine. Semper Fidelis Marine. God bless your family and I hope that they are doing. I know you are watching over them from the heavens above.

"ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS I CAN REMEMBER ABOUT JAY WAS IN SCHOOLS WHEN WE GOT INTO A FIST FIGHT OVER WHO WAS GONNA USE THE TV. EVER SINCE THEN I ALWAYS CONSIDERED HIM ONE OF MY VERY BEST FRIENDS. AND I STILL DO. I'LL NEVER FORGET HOW GOOD I FELT WHEN HE CAME TO MY PLATOON IN JAPAN. WE HAD SO MUCH FUN ON THAT DEPLOYMENT IN FUJI, OKINAWA, AND THAILAND. THEN WE CAME BACK TO THE STATES AND WE FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE BOTH GOING TO ALPHA CO. TO DEPLOY TO IRAQ. IT FELT GREAT TO KNOW THAT I WAS GOING THERE WITH ONE OF THE BEST MARINES I'D EVER KNOWN AND ALSO MY BEST FRIEND. I STILL THINK ABOUT HIM CONSTANTLY. AND AT LEAST I STILL HAVE THE VIDEO THAT SCOTTIE MADE FOR HIM. IT'S NOT MANY PICTURES BUT AT LEAST IT'S SOMETHING. LOVE YOU MAN AND I COULD NEVER FORGET YOU"

"I Just want everyone to know that this Marine was one of my favorite students when he came through the AAV School in 2000-20001. I was a new instructor putting through my very first class then. Cpl Meluat was one of my first students to train. I was very fond of this Marine because he really loved being a Marine. He was a very hard worker and was very eager to learn everything. I never would have thought that 3 years later I would be reporting to 3D AABN to serve with him again. I have to say that I was very excited to be in the same platoon with him. I talked with Cpl Meluat several times while in Iraq and also went on several patrols with him. He was always very excited to go on patrol and was always very motivated to be doing his job as a Marine. I always new that if our squad ever came under attack that he would be able to take charge of the situation. It was always a joy to be around this Marine. I do want his family to know that they should be very proud of their son. He died serving his country and doing what he loved to do. I will miss working with this Marine. I will always remember him as a great person and a outstanding Marine. YAT YAS! "Semper Fidelis""
