"To the family of this young man. I was saddened when I heard of this, and yet today many years later he is still in my heart, I never knew him, but went to school with many of his relatives. I tried to console his father and did not get the welcome from him that I thought I might. He was my Marine brother and always will be. I hope this family lets go of the hatred that they have about those who did come home, maybe one day they can accept life as it was dealt and apologize for the anger they dsisplayed to those who out of the kindness of their own heart reached out to give a kind word. I hope they all heal one day"

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. "To family and friends of Daniel M. McVicker:
To be honest, I was having a quiet night at work and decided to search my own name on Google just out of curiosity. I came across many tributes to Dan. I did not know him, and little did I know that I would read about an actual hero, Daniel M. McVicker. I am a firefighter in Chicago and have always been uncomfortable with the "hero" term cast upon firefighters. I have always believed that the true heroes are the servicemen and women overseas fighting for our country. May God bless Daniel and his family for he gave the ultimate sacrifice, for that, He is a true "Hero"."
Daniel R. McVicker of chicago, IL

"Danny, we may have had our differences but i always thought of you as a great friend i miss you and will always remeber you

"Dan, it's been way to long since I have seen you last, your impression has had lasting effects on the way I live my life. I know you are guarding the gates of heaven, and I will one day see you again, but for now all i have is the memories of football games and lunchtimes. Love you man."
Shane Young of Wheeling Jesuit University, Wheeling, WV

"Dear Vic's family,

You already know what an inspiration Danny was to both the squad and platoon. Rest assured that your son was the true gentleman that you raised. Everyday I replay the events of that day and convoy...As you the memory never dies, life just goes on and you deal with it. I can't say enough times how sorry I am to lose "Gorilla". He is now at a different post: guarding the entrance to heaven and just keep in mind that you will see him again one day and will be able to hug him and see that great smile that was forever on his face. Vic, I know you and Raines got us through the rest of that deployment and I thank you. It is coming up on a year now that we lost you, but fear not your memory still lives on and will forever especially when we go back to Al Asad next year and have to drive MSR Tin where we lost you and Raines. Semper Fidelis brother."

"On Sunday, January 1, 2006, I was visiting friends in Clinton, PA for New Years Eve, while walking in their front yard, I looked down and saw what looked like a message from a fortune cookie. I picked it up and read "IN MEMORY OF LCPL DANIEL MCVICKER ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY". It brought tears to my eyes that this young man gave his life for this country before he reached his 21st birthday and how much his parents must love and miss him. Please accept my prayers for the loss of your son. I'm sure your message got through to him. God Bless Daniel and God Bless America!"
Beth Croft of Cinnaminson, NJ/USA

"Daniel was a person who continued to drive on during the rigors of boot camp. He was an all around kind of guy that knew what he had to do. I'm glad that I got to train with him. Now he's guarding the streets of heaven as it says in the hymnal of the United States Marines. McVicker, here's to you and all the marines of platoon 2093."
Vilaykham Sombatsaphay of Charlotte, North Carolina

"I left for Boot Camp with Dan on July 29th of 2003. We were in the same platoon together and I saw him transform into a great Marine. He never gave up and the last thing I remember him telling me was that "We all came here together, so we should all leave together". God bless him and his family, he is a great Marine that now guards the gates of Heavan. Semper Fi Dan."
Joe Vickery of Mantua, Ohio

"My Deepest Sympathy to the family and friends of Daniel. I am a friend of Michael Lamotta. Although I never met Daniel, I know what he stands for. I have two brothers in the U.S.M.C.. He gave the ultimate sacrafice not only for me but for us all. He will always be in my prayers. SEMPER FI"
