"Today at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, a "Run for the Fallen" 5k was held to honor All of the Heros who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We were given the opportunity to write the name of anyone who has fallen on a race bib and run the race in their honor. I did not know Sgt. Heath McMillin, but something brought my eyes to his name on the list of thousands of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen. I ran this 2013, Labor Day 5k run to Honor Sgt. McMillin! His memory is alive today. My hope is that is family will see this and know Sgt. McMillin was Honored on this day! Thank you for your service and Rest In Peace Sgt. Heath McMillin."

"”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Almost 2,000 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow, I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain, I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush, I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight, I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom, I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing, I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there. I did not die.

It was an honor serving with you. You're never forgotten."

"06-16-09
Heath,
I have just concluded my tour for the US Navy and wanted to thank you for your service. I worked with Jenn in high school and was torn when I heard of you making the ultimate sacrifice. It was one of the few reasons I myself joined to serve our country during their time of need. I honor you and want to thank you for your service as we approach the holiday of our Independence. Thank God for people like yourself who continued to step up and serve throughout our country's great history. Uurah! Hooah! Fair weather and following Seas brother! Soldiers never die...they just fade away."

"Heath, (and all others)
I would like to thank you for the service you have given, and life you gave for your country. On this Memorial day as I sit only a few hundred miles from the area from where we lost a friend, brother, son and father, we remember you and all others that made the ultimate sacrafice to Country and God. I still sit and think about the times when you were the umpire of my little league games and going to your house and talking to you even if just for a short moment. We all Miss you and Love you and over the years we still think of you and the heroism you displayed on those days in Iraq. We shall never forget you. Love Always your Brother In Arms. My son's friend was just seriously injured by an IED in Baghdad in early August. He survived but it is uncertain what the quality of his life is going to be. Look down upon Kevin Mowl and his family and give them the same strength that you bestowed upon Kelly - what a girl and what a hero she is in my eyes. Wish I had gotten to know you better."

"For a reason I cant explain today you crossed my mind quite a few times. I am in South Carolina for a few days and of course I was on Parris Island and walked by first battalion. It was a weird feeling none the less, I had not been there since we graduated on that summer day in 1995. 1st Bn Alpha Co. platoon 1102. The only memory I could remember the whole time I was standing there was the night that Hatcher and Harvey woke everyone up fighting at 3 in the morning and me you and lemma had to break them up dont know why I kept thinking about that but I did lol and how we always had to try to beat each other during our 3 mile runs. Well just leaving you a message to say you are in my memories and prayers all of the time and although I never met your family we pray for them also. You are a true hero and the epitemy of what it means to be a Marine, Semper Fi leatherneck!"

It broke my heart....but I will make sure that Michael knows you- I PROMISE.

"I just found out that Heath passed away a couple of days ago and I am so very shocked. What can I possibly say to honor this man? How do I sum up the memory that I have of Heath? I find myself lacking words to describe my feelings right now. I am saddened, upset and yet proud. McMillin was a good man serving his country and he has given the ultimate sacrifice for us all. I knew Heath when we were stationed at 8th & I together in good ole Ready First; he was a great guy to be around. I am glad and proud to have served with him and will miss knowing that he is out there."
Felix Colfer of Falls Church, VA

"Heath, I want you to know that all of the kids are getting so big their growing like weeds. Robert is in Kindergarden and doing really good.

"Heath,
July 27,2003 will be a night that i will never forget. A night of guilt for not being able to bring you home safely to Kelly and the kids, for that, I am truely sorry. Rest in peace my brother and know now that nothing can hurt you no more, for now you live on safely in god's house. Some day Kelly and Michael will once again be with you."

Michael is growing up so fast and there are times that he will squeeze me so tight that I could swear that it is you. There are days that I feel like I don't want to go on but I do so for you and our son. He will know what a hero you are- I PROMISE. Thank you for loving me and giving me the greatest gift of all- our boy.
I will keep the love that I have for you in my heart until it is our time to meet again. All of my love- ALWAYS AND FOREVER.... Kelly"

"I had the distinct pleasure of knowing and serving with Heath at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. As of us that served with Heath will agree that he was a kind soul and dedicated American. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You’re memory will always live within us. God Speed…."
Sergeant Joe Maggerine of Rochester, NY

"I served with Heath in Kilo Co. 3rd Bat. 1st Marines, Camp Pendleton after he left 8th and I. We used to jokingly call him "Heather" or "Heathen", but he couldn't complain because mine and Fulkerson's nicknames were the "Fat Sisters." I saw Heath's picture in Time magazine as one of the heros killed in Iraq and it hit me hard. He was a great person who always seemed to be smiling or laughing. It was easy to get him talking and I wish I could've kept in touch. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, Semper Fi."
Jeff Dillion, SGT. USMC of Ladera Ranch, Ca

"I had the PRIVILEDGE of serving with Sgt McMillin then LCPL McMillian/USMC at Marine Barracks 8th & I Washington D.C. Heath was an outstanding, dedicated Marine one of the best I knew. All Marines of A co. 1st plt from those years will remember him by "mad-dog McMillin." Heath was a very kind-giving man, it was these attributes that made him the Marine that he was. He opened his doors for my family when we were transfered to a Marine Corps base in California. The comeradere and friendship he gave us during our transition was instrumental in my families well being. I will never forget that. The long drives from MCAGCC 29 Palms to Camp Pendelton visiting McMillin were well worth the drive. The memories that we have of McMillin will last forever.

Semper Fi McMillin,

"To The Family of SGT McMillin:

I am a young soldier from Wyoming, NY currently serving in Iraq. The news of SGT McMillin's death came to me while I was serving a State Active Duty mission in northern NY. Although I never served with him, the loss tore me apart. To know someone so close paid the ultimate price ... I am still moved to tears to this day at the thought. I have a small card with a charm and prayer on it in my pocket. I have written his name on the bottom of it and I have it on me at all times. I never go anywhere without it. Every day, every minute, that I have served over here, I have served in his honor. Please know my prayers and deepest condolences are with you always."

"Military Police Corps Regimental Prayer
By Chaplain Michael Yarman

Heavenly Father - We approach You today because You have called us to be a people of prayer.

We praise You because You are our Creator, our Redeemer and our Provider.

We acknowledge our great need for You as we fulfill our mission as soldiers.

We have been called to serve our nation as Military Police and we are proud of the honored heritage of the Regiment and our motto: Of the Troops and For the Troops.

Whether we are fighting an enemy, securing as area, patrolling the streets, or helping someone in distress, help us, O Lord, to always be men and women of integrity who can be counted on to do the right thing.

Give us the strength to stand for what is right and to oppose those who would do harm to our nation and the people we serve.

May we always be truthful in Word, Deed and Signature, and bring honor through our service to the memory of those in the Regiment who gave the supreme sacrifice for their country.

Guide us now, Father, by giving us wisdom and knowledge from on high, that as Military Police we will always be prepared to Assist, Protect and Defend."

"I had the opprotunity of serving with Heath as a memeber of Company A, Marine Barracks 8th & I in Washington D.C. He was a true professional in every sense of the word. He was proud and honorable and played a pretty mean game of basketball. As his company training NCO I had the chance to watch him grow, not only in stature, but as a Marine. Heath may be gone, but as long as the Corps is alive, he will be too. May God Bless your family Heath and comfort them at this time."
Sgt. Kenneth G. Morris of Illinois

"I am one of the fortunate people who can say that they knew Heath way back when. He and I went to the same high school, Midlakes, which housed approximately 200 students.
Heath stood about as tall as a giant when you are a shorty like myself. I can only take a guess at 6'7". He had this reddish-brown hair and freckles which could only trigger a thought of Ron Howard/Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. He was a star on the high school football field, basketball court, and baseball diamond. Heath was one of those people who you rarely saw without a smile or something funny to say. Heath could have you cracking up at a moment's notice just by using one word. He had me laughing on countless occasions with "repossess!" Inside joke, but one I will always remember. I am lucky to have that to remember. He was very well liked by practically everyone at Midlakes High School and I honestly cannot recall a time in which he ever said anything mean to or about another person. It's rare when someone like that comes around which makes it even more tragic when they leave us. Although there are people who had a much deeper friendship with him than I ever had, I am thankful that I knew him and will never forget him.
My prayers and thoughts will continue to go to his parents, his siblings (Jason, John, and Jenny), his children, his wife, and his friends. I hope that they all know how special Heath was to many people and that, in some way, it comforts them.
Sincerely,"
