"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry. I understand in theory only that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take the families pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

Thousands of beautiful daffodils across the country will come up each Spring, and, like your Spirit, will LIVE ON...and ON. Blessings to you, the family, as you grieve, and heal. For details, contact projectliveon@aol.com. Jan. 23, 2006."

"To Joe's Family:

Just today I learned of what happened to Joe in January. I was Joe's roommate at the National Young Leader's Convention in Washington, DC back in 1996 or so. I only learned of what happened today while looking up some of the people from that conference online. I regret to say that I have not talked to Joe since shortly after that conference, but was deeply saddened to hear what had happened. Since the war began, I often wondered how he was doing because I knew he was in the military. I just wanted to take a second and let you know that there are those out there that were touched by Joe that you may never hear from. It has been 10 years since I have seen him but I still remember him from that trip. He was one of the nicest, most genuine people I have had an occassion to meet either before or since that time. My brother is a Marine in Iraq so I understand the pride that a family has for their child who serves this country. While you have every reason to be proud of the son and soldier you raised, I regret that the ultimate price was paid in defense of this country. I hope that God has brought you some peace and re-assurance. I just wanted to let you know that for every person you know that cares, there are hundreds more that you may never hear from who crossed paths with Joe and were made better for it. God Bless you and your family."

"Joe, we got to the gulf on January 22nd, and my parents emailed me that night and told me what had happened. It's something I still can't believe. There were some rough days there, but I know you were right there helping me through. We've known each other for more years than I can count, Altar boys together, right on in to HS Football. You were a damn good friend, and I was proud to have known you. Fair winds and following seas bro."
