"Dear Jeff,
It was 7 years ago today Dad, Cory and I lost the other most important person in our life - you. You are never not in our thoughts and prayers. Our lives have changed without you but we remain a very close family and that makes me happy. Even though you were not one who wanted a lot of attention, with the scholarship and now an American Legion Post in your name, you are definitely getting the recognition you so deserve.
We will continue to Honor You, Love You, Remember You, and Miss You all the days of our lives. Some day we will all be together again.
Love you Lots."
Mom, Dad and Cory of Vermont

"Jeff,
Steve now has a very large memorial tattoo on his back...including your name and those of other brothers/sisters he has lost...he really thought so highly of you. I told him he should send a photo to your Mom, I don't know if he has.
It appears that he is getting out in the next few months, I'm pretty happy about his decision, but I think he'll miss the Corps. Watch over him! Semper Fi Devil Dog!!"

I wish so bad you were here in person, but I know you're always here in spirit. Much love and big hugs."

"Jeff,
I only met you once, but you deeply touched the life of my friend Sgt Heiser, SL and thus you will always be in both of our thoughts. Know that when I visit you, if Steve could be there instead he would be, but his place is still with the Corps, fighting for what you all believe so steadfastly in. Watch over him and your other brothers as they deploy.
God bless you and your family.
Semper Fi!"

"Happy Belated 25th Birthday Jeff! This site was down for a while so I could not write. How was the Bud your brother left you - bet it tasted good. Met some of your Marine buddies - boy can they drink! It was nice to talk to them though. Still missing you every minute of every day Jeff. Lots of love. Mom"

"Dear Jeff,
It is hard to believe you have been gone for 4 years today. Dad, Cory, Sam Crist and I came to visit you today and brought some beautiful flowers. We know you saw us there and it makes things a little easier knowing you are resting in such a beautiful place. A light snow had fallen over night and even with the rain it seems so serene and peaceful there. So much love and so many thanks to you for all you gave to us.
Love,
Mom, Dad and Cory"

"I have had Jeff's memorial page on my favorites since I found out that he paid our freedom debt. I do remember him as one full of life and energy. I was not surprised that he felt compelled to defend his Country the way he answered that call. I think of him often, as I think of him, I ask God to comfort his family and send them peace and thanks from each and every one of us, a grateful Nation!

God bless you with a tear in both eyes!"

"Jeffrey,
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. I saw the CNN news program about your unit-Bravo Company 1/8 in Fallujah and what you and your fellow Marines had to go through. I served in the USMC during the 80's and fortunately it was peacetime, but I feel honored to be able to say that I was a member of an organization that has brave men like you and your fellow Bravo Company Marines in it.

"Holmes,
I thank you for being the great man and Marine that you are. I will always remember being at football practice and having your enthusiam and outstanding spirit you brought to the team. But most of all I will never forget the last conversation that you and I had when you had just gotten back from boot camp and I shook your hand to tell you how proud of you I was. Back then I never thought that I would become a Marine, but I can tell you with all my heart that there should be more Marines like yourself. You are a hero to everyone I know and I think about you from time to time. Thank you for your great service to our country. Semper Fi my brother and may you rest in peace."

"Ever since I heard the news about Jeff, I've wanted to say something in honor of his life. My thanks to whoever organized this site.

Jeff was a cadet on our Civil Air Patrol drill team in the late 90s. I remember him most as being about 14 and one of the youngest kids on the team. We had him march in the center of the formation that year beause he was still new and needed the older cadets' experience to guide him. But what a great attitude. Whenever I saw him, I'd say, "Heyyy, Holmes," and he'd smile -- big, goofy / junior high, contagious smile -- just the sort of positive attitude everyone wants to have on their team. Such a nice kid. Some kids are popular because their parents have money. Jeff was popular because of his character. I'd always say, Jeff you've got a great attitude. His reply, "Oh, of course sir, why not."

The White River paper quoted teachers and classmates who said Jeff was always smiling, fun to be around, good-natured. They were right. I hear his attitude made him a good football player. No surprise to me there.

Now, whenever the war comes on the news, I think of Jeff. A month ago, I was in Washington, at Arlington, and thought of Jeff again. What a shame. What a loss. America needs more kids like Jeff, not fewer.

I lost touch with Jeff after '00 or '01, and didn't realize he joined the Marines until I heard the terrible news of his death. As a kid, Jeff was a great cadet. I bet that as a man, he was a great Marine, too.

My sincere condolences to Jeff's family. If it matters at all, please know I remember Jeff Holmes."
Curt LaFond of Montgomery AL / formerly Laconia NH

"Holmes, I envied the warrior and teammate you became when we went through our Crucible.

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, it goes without saying that a fallen Marine is a hero, but I can say with no reservation that Jeffrey fought hard and sacrificed himself for the men around him. I hope that knowing what a brave and strong man your son was gives you some comfort.

Peace be with you."

Please remember you will always be in my heart and, until we meet again son, all my love.
