"In honor of SPC Patrick Herried,
I recently viewed the “Fallen Heroes” memorial at my school. Viewing it made me realize what Military men and women go through for our country. They are willing to sacrifice their life so that we may have freedom. For that I greatly appreciate all he did and want to say “Thank You,” to his family and friends. It takes a very special person to put his country first the way SPC Herried did.
I am a Junior at Wagner High School and I am proud to be an American and have a chance to write this letter. May all the great memories you have of SPC Harried always be close to your heart as he is a hero for our Country.
Sincerely, Lexie Youngstrom"

"To the family of Specialist Patrick W. Herried,
I am a Marine Officer currently serving as a Iraqi Company Advisor at the same location your son once served. There is an Moral and Welfare tent that was dedicated in the name of your son and holds a large poster of your son and his story. The Marines currently serving here are reminded of his service and bravery on a daily basis. Needless to say there are changes going on with the progress of the war and I'm looking to return this poster to people that care for him most, his family. I am looking for contact information of whom I can send the poster.
My condolences go out to you all, family and friends and on behalf of our team, Thank you for all your sacrifices. Semper Fidelis."

Subject: whats up?

Hey Rebecca I just got back from a JRTC rotation in Louisianna, it was alright I didnt get to do my job,( my mos is 13F forward observer) I was my commanders personal security for the whole rotation. I am stationed at ft.wainwright alaska in fairbanks, I have been here for two years now,if you ever decide to come to alaska dont come to fairbanks, it's a small town in the north central part of the state, and there is nothing to do here. I am going back to sioux falls in june for block leave, Anacker is taking me camping,so that should be pretty fun. I still keep in contact with newborg, lehmann, and the whole gang I think everyone is married but me. I leave for Iraq in august it shouldnt be that bad, it's only a year long rotation. I went golfing yesterday with a friend, he clipped a tree with the golf cart and the front wheel broke off, the MP's were called and charges are pending, I had fun though. I better get going thank you for mailing me back, it's good to hear from you. Patrick"

You had absolutely no fear in going over to that aweful sandbox, you are a true soldier and a hero to our Country. God has blessed us all with your short time here.

In loving Memory..."
SFC Rebecca Aspaas of AZ, USA

"Patrick, I have been thinking about you often in the last month. It was 8 months ago today that I found out about your death. I am truly grateful for having spent the time we did together. You are one of those souls that hold onto a person and leave a long-lasting memory. I am selfish and wish for this to be untrue still to this day. I remember the last time I saw you at Jeremy's wedding and remember falling into our old joking routine. I miss you and will never forget you.

Your Friend,
Darren"

"I was fortunate to meet Pat in Sept 2004. He was kind, witty and passionate about life. He served his country with pride and died a hero. I am eternally grateful for getting to spend time with him that weekend. A part of him will always be with me."

"PATRICK WAS A GOOD PERSON AND I AM GLAD I KNEW HIM WHEN HE WAS LITTLE AND WATCHED HIM GROW UP WITH HIS MOM RITA AND SISTER STACEY. I AM VERY PROUD TO HAVE KNOWN HIM. WE HAD A LAKE CABIN AT LAKE MADISON, SD WHERE WE SPENT ALOT OF THE SUMMER AT THE LAKE AND PATRICK WAS ALWAYS HAPPY. HE WAS ALWAYS POLITE AS A YOUNG CHILD AND A VERY NICE YOUNG MAN WHO RESPECTED ALL HE KNEW. I MISS HIM AND THERE ARE DAYS LIKE TODAY WHEN I THINK OF HIM ALOT. RITA AND I ARE VERY GOOD FRIENDS AND HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALOT BUT NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE THE TOUGHEST THING WE WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH. I KNOW PATRICK IS ABOVE AND WATCHING OVER US LIKE HE DID OVER IN IRAC. MISS YOU LOTS. WITH ALL MY LOVE THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS."
PATTY RUDD of WENTWORTH, SD

"There is not an hour that goes by that I don't think of you my dear son. I pray that I find peace soon. I am filled with rage at those in our government who needlessly did this to you."
