"It has been almost 7 yrs you've been gone and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the sacrifice you and your family paid for our country. My children know you as a hero and I tell them great stories about how you lifted peoples spirits during training and in Iraq, when they were homesick or just needed some advice. If anyone has info on where he was laid to rest my family has wanted to go pay our respects but don't know where. His family is in my thoughts and prayers daily"

Me toco a mi.
Robert don't you worry about a thing. Our Lord has a plan and you were a small but important part of it. You touched all our lives and made a big difference in a way that we will all remember. To his relatives I send my heart felt condolences. To his friends rest easy knowing that we will all be with our brother Robert when our time comes. Live each day trying to do what you can to exceed SSG Robert Hernandez' expectation of us. Leave our world better than when we found it. He'll be watching and smiling down from heaven. When my time comes I want Robert vouching for me before my Lord. He will be my Ace in the hole if I need one to get into heaven. There are many reasons to be proud of America. SSG Robert Hernandez is definitely one of the big ones in my book. What say you?

"Hello, my name is Diana Garcia-Camacho.
Robert Hernandez was my uncle. My tio robert was the most loving and supporting man I have ever known,He gave me away at my wedding and when ever i needed him he was always there. My husband loved him very much. The way he smiled made everything seem alright.I never knew that he was gone to iraq, because at the time that he left, my husband was going through a life and death heart operation and robert knew and he always called to see how my husband and me were doing. That is how selfless he was.He was a great father to his two sons and a wonderful man.I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM. TIO I KNOW YOU AND MOMMY WILL ALWAYS HAVE EACH OTHER LIKE YOU ALWAYS WANTED.I LOVE YOU AND I WILL MISS YOU EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE.I WLL NEVER FORGET YOU. R.I.P"

"To the family of SSG Robert Hernandez:

I wanted to tell you how sorry I was to learn of his death.

I am an Air Force officer currently stationed in Upstate New York.

For the 6 months that I was deployed to Iraq, I had the honor of serving in the same command (Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq) as SSG Hernandez.

I must say that I only had the opportunity to meet SSG Hernandez briefly, but I remember him well. I had the privilege of riding next to him in a Hummvee on a convoy from Baghdad to Taji back in September. SSG Hernandez kept me safe on this convoy, as he did for so many others on so many other convoys. I am in debt to him forever for the security that he provided as a member of the Rough Riders, and for the sacrifice that he made for all of us.

I have sent a photo that I took of SSG Hernandez at Camp Taji at the end of the convoy back in September. His great smile is one that I remember even without the photo. I remember very well that he had a positive and outgoing personality that benefited those around him.

I feel very strongly that SSG Hernandez's service in Iraq has made a lasting difference: in the security that he provided to his fellow troops and also in the work that he did to bring freedom to the people of Iraq and to protect our American freedom back home.

I offer my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Thank you.

Respectfully,
Christopher D. Geisel, Captain, United States Air Force"
