"SGT Hayslett, as yet another Memorial Day approaches, my thoughts once again are about you. You quite literally were my hero, and had it not been for your actions, I wouldn't be here to write this. I'm forever grateful for you, and forever mournful over the events of that November day. Thank you, Brother. I love you, like only a comrade can understand.

"I know it has been a while, but Tim will never be forgotten by those of us who knew him and loved him. I only knew him for a short time before he moved to Germany - I was a friend from the Army and he left an impression of a very kind, fun loving, sweet person that I was happy to have known. I just today was thinking of him and all the fun he and I and our friends had at Fort Riley, KS. So I did a search on line for him and found this website. My heart is still sad, but the memories of his smile keep moving through my mind. Tim, my friend, you are missed."

I remember went you got your E-5, to me in record time lol, you had mentioned to me I should have these stripes you had. I told you back " you earned those, they don't give E-5 to trouble makers like me." I am so sad to hear you are not here on this earth any more but I'm so proud that so very many people have posted on these web sites about you. It was a true honor to have know you back in kansas. And if you didn't know at the time, so many others are blessed to have been able to share that honor as well. I wish I could say hello in person to you or over the phone, but I know your seeing this and I just wanna wish you well up high where you are. Take care sgt."

"Dear Timmy,
Today is Memorial Day and there was a beautiful service for the heros of our town. I felt honored because the hero is my brother! As I sat and listened to your name be called and the date that you were killed, I smiled. I know how happy you would be to know that you are a hero to thousands of people across the US. Your sacrifice you made is the ultimate price. I wish so badly you were here. I wish you could meet my daughter, your niece. But I promise she will know all about you. I have your picture in her room. I promise to tell her how brave her Uncle Timmy was. I have not told anybody this but sometimes as she is looking around and I cant tell what se is looking at, she will smile and I often think she is looking at you. Crazy I know but I really do believe that. Well I just wanted to write and remind you how much I love you and miss you with all of my heart. Keep looking over us...ALL my love."

"November 15, 2003 a proud soldier was killed by an Improvised Explosive Device in Iraq. That man was my older brother. He also was a son, a father of 2 little girls, and an incredible man. He loved to laugh and loved to drink beer. His smile was infectious. So was his laughter and humor.

He loved the Army and was very dedicated to being the best soldier he could be. And he did. He gave all. He was laid to rest where he shall never suffer again.

I would like everyone to think of him and the many others who have laid down their lives for us not only in this war but in all of the others as well!

My brother is a hero and for that, I thank him for his courage, honor, dedication, and committment. He was a wonderful person and forever will be in my heart and soul.

I love you Timmy Hayslett! And miss you more than you shall ever know!"

"EARLY ONE MORNING ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO
HER HEART WAS FEELING HEAVY
HOW COULD SHE HAVE KNOWN
AS SHE READ THE STORY
OF THE BLACK HAWKS GOING DOWN
SEARCHING FOR HIS NAME
THANKING GOD IT WASN'T FOUND
HER HEART STILL FELT HEAVY
EVEN LATER IN THE DAY
THAT AWFUL FEELING JUST WOULDN'T GO AWAY
WHEN THE CALL CAME IN TO TELL HER HE WAS GONE
THE ARMY AND HER FAMILY WOULDN'T LET HER CRY ALONE.
HE'S GONE
SHE KNEW NOT TO ASK WHY
HE'S GONE
SHE DIDN'T GET TO SAY GOOD-BYE
HE'S GONE GONE
AND SHE CRIES
THEY LAID HER SON TO REST IN THE COLD NOV. RAIN
SHE'S BEEN TOLD SO MANY TIME'S
THAT TIME WOULD EASE HER PAIN
BUT AS EACH NEW DAY BEGINS AND THE SUNLIGHT HITS THE GROUND
HER HEART STILL FEELS HEAVY BECAUSE HES NOT AROUND
HE'S GONE SHE KNEW NOT TO ASK WHY
HE'S GONE SHE DIDN'T GET TO SAY GOOD-BYE
HES GONE GONE
AND SHE CRIES
AS THE DAYS AND WEEKS GO BYE AND SLOWLY TURN TO YEARS
THE PAIN SHE FELT THAT DAY STILL BRINGS HER TO TEARS
SHE MISSES HIS LAUGHTER AND THE SUNLIGHT IN HIS EYES AND JUST WHEN SHE THINKS SHE CAN'T
SHE STILL CRIES
I LOVE YOU TIMMY"

"Dear Hayslett family,

My name is Victoria Hayslett. I am an African American, now 2nd year college student in Illinois. I was on a long journey to find people who had my rare last name and what better person to find than Timothy L. Hayslett. My condolences go out to the family. Though I didnt know him, he had to have been a wonderful person like many others who carry that name. I still havent found much information on the name, but its good to know that theres a hero who has it too.

God Bless You All."

"Dear Brother,
As the days pass, they become more unbearable to accept the fact that your not coming home. I miss you terribly and think of you every passing second of the day. Your face lingers in my heart and I hear your voice behind me in the shadows. I dream of you often and pray daily that I can awake from this awful nightmare. I pray for strength to get me through this paralyzing trauma that has happened to our family. I visit your grave and touch your headstone letting you know how much I love you. Just the other day someone put a sweet message there for you. Timmy, your such an honor and a damn fine man for what you have done for me and this country! I love you brother and even though your not with me physically, not one day goes by where I dont think of you! I love you and until we meet again in the streets of heaven, may you continue to watch over us all and bless us with your spirit.

"Hey Tim,

Just wanted to let you know that you haven't been forgotten. Your memory of the good times in the Bandits and that terrible day,15 Nov, will forever be burned in my mind by the tragic event that took your life. I think about you everyday when I log on to the computer for one of my passwords is dedicated to you so that I will never forgot.

Keep watch over those that loved you so dearly and your close friends. We miss you! I saw on the Stars and Stripes Newspaper article online that the 1st Armor Division will be dedicating a monument to those that were assigned to the division and were killed during OIF 1. I will be looking forward to the day that I can take my family to see it when the 1AD gets reassigned to the states and tell them about you and the others I knew that were not lucky as me, for that is what it was plain luck to get out alive sometimes. I will tell them about your crazy sense of humor, loyalty, fearless courage, and your ability to make the worst day seem like the best one in your life. I miss you Tim. Life has not been the same for many people since 11 Sep 01 and now 15 Nov 03. Take care my good friend.

"My condolences to the Hayslett family. The name caught my attention, I may be mistaken, but I think I served at Fort Riley KS with a soldier named Hayslett at the 125th FSB Warehouse in the late 90's. This person may be related to Tim since they were from PA also.... not sure though. Your family and those that have also lost a loved one are in our prayers. rafaelgularte@hotmail.com"

"To the family of Sgt. Hayslett: I can't begin to express my sorrow to all of you for your loss. My son was in Friedberg with Sgt. Hayslett and is now in Baghdad on Bandit Island. Every day we hope the phone doesn't ring or the doorbell does not chime with bad news. I can't possibly imagine how you feel but I can only say how proud of Sgt. Hayslett we are. I know my words can be of no consolation to you but we can only hope for the end of this event and a halt to the loss of lives. All our prayers and best wishes are with you."
John Sansabrino of Plantation, Fl. U.S.A.

"Sgt. Hayslett, I'll never be able to do my Arnold Schwarzennegger impression for you again. I know how much you loved it when I said, "Billy, get to the chopper!" I wish I could do it once more.

You were always in a good mood. I never once saw you with a frown. You never hesitated to stop and talk, no matter how busy you were. I'll talk to you everyday, and I'll see when the Lord wills.

To your family, all I can say is that I am truly sorry. You all lost a wonderful son and brother. I will never ever forget him.

May the lord ease your suffering, and give you peace when you and he are ready."

"First, I'd like to offer my deepest sympathy to Tim's family. I met Tim when I was in the sixth grade and was friends w/ him up through high school. I played football with Tim in middle school & always enjoyed his hilarious personality. He was a good guy that served his country proudly. Thank-you Tim, there are tons of us out here who appreciate what you were trying to do over there."
B. Meredith of Denver, CO

"Timothy L. Hayslett (Timmy, as we all knew him) always had that smile on his face and ready to pull a prank on you the first time you let down your guard. We watched him grow up from that little boy playing Midget football to the man that went off to war. He went unselfishly to serve his country so that we may live in freedom. For those of us that had the honor to know him, he was a father, son, brother and a soldier in the U. S. Army who wasn't afraid of the battles he fought. He made his own choices and stood behind them, whether right or wrong. He found the military life to be rewarding and there he gained the respect of his fellow soldiers. We miss you Timmy. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. We know you are now high on that mountain, looking down at us with that big smile on your face. We can only hope you are as proud of us, as we are of you and your accomplishments (even though you were only on this earth for such a short time). You left Newville, PA a young soldier and came back to us a hero. God Bless You!"
Deb, Jim and Jamie of Lewisberry, PA

"Im so thankful for the life of Timothy Hayslett....He was a hero, and not afraid to die for his country. He is in heaven now and my God be with your family at this time of loss. Remember, he was a good man and is now your gaurdian angel."
Annonymous of California

"Timmy Hayslett, a father, a brother, a friend, a husband, a soldier, a goof-ball...This was my brother. He was one of a kind. He always knew how to make a room full of people smile! WIth his corny jokes, a rude immitation of me (Im gonna be a gymnast) or Herbie, or just that goofy smile....He will be missed greatly...But to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord...and he is up there, looking down at us all, and the greatest thing is...He looks wonderful as an Angel! To his family I found this quote that has helped me....
Even though God has chosen to take your body and soul out of our sights, your heart will combine with the ones you loved and you will remain on our shoulders as our gaurdian angel! I love you Timmy Hayslett and I cant wait until the day I can see your smiling face in Heaven! All my Love.....Your sister, Melody"
Melody Hayslett of Newville Pa

"Dear Honey,I wanted to let you know that you'll be in my heart forever and I'll never forget our time together. All the time we had spent together was a wonderful time and I'll never forget it. I'll keep all your letter's and e- mails, specially the one you sent me on Nov. 14th. I thank you for the promise, it tells me how much you loved me. You made me laughing like I made you laughing and we understood each other without words, what is very special and hard to find. I'm very glad that I found you and I know you felt the same way I do, and I'm very sad that all our plans for our futur together won't come true. Someday I'll come to PA again to show my son where his name comes from. I love you and miss you very much."
Bianca of Rosbach, Germany

"Dear Tim, I never got to say good bye to you. The day before your life was cowardly taken from you, if I only knew, I would have taken more time to talk to you instead of walking by and just say "What's up?". I look at the Vendor Stand you called home on Bandit Island and where I saw you last and ask God why you and not me? I traveled that same route to the Monument many times and nothing happened to me. Why? Only God knows that answer but for now we all must go on. You would have wanted that. You were a good friend to us all and will be sorely missed by your two loving families, both by blood and by military. To those that did not have the opportunity to know you, you were the 400th soldier to be killed in Iraq since the war began, but to us and your family you were more than a statisical number. You were a son, a brother, a father, an outstanding M1 Abrhams Tanker Gunner, a very competent Non-commisioned Officer, and a dear friend to all that knew you. Maybe, if the people that planted that IED really knew you they would have not planted that bomb after all. I guess we cannot go by what ifs for you wouldn't have wanted that either. I am closing this letter with a simple wish for your family and friends that their sorrow and grief left behind by your sudden departure is lessened with time and the memories that you shared with them. Tim, it was a honor and a priviledge to serve with you my friend. This is not good bye, but a see you later until I can once again ask you "What's up?" and take time to talk to you once again."
SFC Peter Johnson of HHC, 1-37th AR, Bandit Island, Baghdad, Iraq
