"Tomorrow will be 11yrs since you have passed. Sometimes I close my eyes and it feels like just yesterday we were sitting in your parents living room playing Mario Go Kart with Katie. There is so much about you that I miss. So many memories I cherish and so many moments I wish I hadn't taken for granted. You were my first love and my best friend. I am thankful for the time we had together. I have to believe God had bigger plans for you. You will always remain in my heart and will forever be missed. Until we meet again......"

"I helped train Nathan at DHL Worldwide Express when he got hired there in Tulsa back in the late 1990s. We rode together for a while and loaded the cargo plane together most nights. I remember his unfailing ethics, genuine love of God and his family (he talked about friends, home (Missouri)and his family all the time), and matter-of-fact sense of duty to his country. Even at that young age, the man was fearless, but never in an off-putting way.
Because of our work hours, we only got Thanksgiving Day off; this kept Nathan from going home that weekend. I invited him over, and had the pleasure to share Thanksgiving dinner with Nathan, my wife, my two sons, and other family. He was a truly great man and rare individual, and my family and I are blessed to have known him even a little.
My thoughts and prayers to his many friends, fellow Marines and family, you should be forever proud.
To Nathan, I (like many) still miss and think about you my friend. Your ultimate personal sacrifice, while seeming terribly unfair, is not forgotten. Rest in peace."

"You are gone but never forgotten. I had the privilege to serve as your squad leader for a few months in Broken Arrow Ok before my service time was up. You were a good man, a good Marine, and I was proud to serve alongside you and the rest of the Marines from the Broken Arrow Reserves. I came across an old picture a few years ago of you and I getting ready to climb up a rock bluff when we went to Mountain Warfare training in Bridge Port Cal for our two week deployment back in year 2000 (or year 2001 or 2002) I believe. Every Memorial day I make sure to post it to serve as a reminder to all of the eminence sacrifices many of our service members (and their family) make to keep our freedom alive. "Today we are reminded of how precious life is. Eight years ago today I lost my best friend Nate. I am thankful my wife got to know Nathan and his quirks. He was a hilarious guy with a big heart. He often checked in on Shannon while I was deployed to Iraq and he was still home, and I talked with him a time or two while I was deployed and he made sure I was staying faithful to her. I returned from war a few weeks before Nate left. Very glad I had the opportunity to spend some fun times before he left and Iím thankful I was able to tell him goodbye. We miss you dearly Nate."

"In the Spring of 2003, I met Nate in an informal work environment. Mutual friend C.E.Cole had told me about Nate
and i thought he might be an interesting guy to know.
That he was! We worked together several hours a day for six months, so i got to know Nate pretty well. Nate was a
bright, ambitious, vibrant, happy, young buzzsaw.
He spoke often of his parents, and his brothers and sister. He was proud of his family, and his girlfriend, and of his choice to be a Marine.
Nate told me he wanted to move back and live in Missouri, near his family.
Nate and I discussed Iraq and Afghanistan. I spoke of fear for our soldiers, as my father had served and died in Vietnam. Later, I mentioned that a close friend/marine was in Beirut when the barracks were bombed.
But Nate would smile and say he was a marine and he had no fear of a callup.
Nate wanted to serve his country and become a more 'expert' pilot.
I so admired his optimism and upbeat aura. He was always smiling and making us laugh.
After working with many young people for the last twenty years, I promise that none are as special or as memorable as Nathan T. Hammond.
To his parents, siblings and loved ones-'A', your Nate is loved by many, make that all, who knew him. Nate and
his precocious smile are missed, and are not forgotten. God Bless You Lil' Brother...."
