"It has been 9 1/2 years since you are gone. I miss you so much. I remember many memories with you but one that really sticks out is when I was having what I thought was the worst night of my life. You picked me up and put on music on the jukebox at the bar and twirled me all over the floor and danced all night till I was smiling. That was our last goodbye. I miss you so much and your love for life was bigger than any."

"To the family of Huey,
I served with Huey in both Alaska as well as Saudi Arabia. My most memorable times with Huey had to be in Saudi when we would hang out in Dhahran when he was on pass from Eskan Village. He enjoyed the water, the sun, the Northwest KLM flight attendants that shared a beach with, but most of all, he enjoyed life. He could always be counted on to bring a smile to your face and turn an OK day into a memorable one with his personality and wit. As SSG Cruz stated earlier, he will always be a person/soldier/friend that people will always remember and NEVER forget. A true sign of his impact on people's life is happening right now, I had no idea what had happened to him all of this time. I just decided to sit down today and try to track down some old friends when I learned of this via this website. Word's cannot describe what a loss this is to our country and his family. To you Fassbender, I say this "Hold down the fort brother, your boy's have some more business to take care of, but, We will be there shortly, once again. Hooah!!!"
SSG Jason M. Pichette of Ione, Wa

"My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Huey and those who will miss him forever. Always rembember that he is now an angel who watches over us. I went to school with Huey and he was the sweetest and funniest person. Always laughing and always into his ROTC life. So I am proud to say that I went and knew him and although he was taken too soon I know we will see him soon. Thank you Huey for the sacrifice you made for all of us no matter what we think of war or this war."

"To the Family of Huey FassbenderIII

Huey was one of the most important people in my life. I met him in NE and instently fell for him. Not a day goes by that I dont think of him and wish that I could have just one more day to see him. He stayed my best friend long after we left Omaha. It has been very difficult to admit to myself that he is gone, I still somtimes go to AIM just to see if by some grace of God he is logged on. I never got a chance to beg for his forgivness after our last fight, and the words we exchanged play over and over in my head. What hurts more then anything is that I dont know if he new how much I cared regardless of what I said. He will live forever in my heart, and there is comfort in knowing that one day we all will see him agian."

"Fassbender was one of the coolest and funiest people I have ever met. We lived on the same floor while stationed in 1-17 INF Alaska. He would always come over and chill out or just "veg out" after a late night. I truly miss those days and will always save some food for you, fassbender. You will be missed. God bless for your scarifice....SFC Pegues, Lloyd"

"Huey was one of the first people I met in Alaska. I served with him in Aco 1-17 we were in the same platoon. The first time I met him he got me very drunk because I was the new guy. Huey took care me and squared me away many times. LOVE YA BROTHER!"

"To my loved nephew, that I will never forget. You were always so nice to me when we were together, and I cherish the time we spent together. Everything I do for the rest of my life will make due on the freedom that you have provided all of us, and I will never take that for granted."

"How do you express such sorrow for the greatest person you've ever met. Huey was my bestfriend. Huey was my hero before he became a true hero. I would have given my life so his could continue. Till we meet again my friend."
Holly Rossmoine of Boulder City, Nevada zedhead@earthlink.net

"To Huey's family. I meet him in Alaska. We were in the same Company(Aco 1/17 INF.) I will never forget the day we meet. I was walking down the hall, and Huey made a comment that only someone from New Orleans would know. Come to find out we had grown up in the same city. Kenner, La. We were just 4 years apart from each other. We became friends based on the simple fact that we could relate on certain things. It seems like in the Army when you meet someone that is from the same place you are from, you tend to form a bound. Huey told me that he wanted to attend LSU. I hope he got the chance to. Huey was a great person, I am not saying this because he is no longer here, I am saying this because it is true. My life has change since the day I opened the Army Times up and saw his picture in it. GOD BLESS HUEY P. L. FASSBENDER and his FAMILY.

"A short message to my family - Please, I would love to get in contact with some of you since I have never had the chance to do that while growing up. I want to share my personal sympathy with you privately so if you have the chance you can email me any time at marlowe_michelle@yahoo.com I would love to hear from you, my dad has always told me about Huey's dad (Huey) being a brother to him.... "To my cousin, and my family in Louisiana... Although I wasn't close with you Huey you are in my thoughts and prayers. To my family, you are in my heart as well and I can't even imagine the pain you have felt since Huey was lost on the 6th of January. I keep in mind that Huey was lost while defending my freedom and all of yours as well and I will be eternally grateful for just that. Please know that even though I never had the chance to be close because I was all the way in the Virgin Islands I always keep my family close to heart and I will never let go of Huey's memory and will be forever thankful for the sacrifices he has made for myself, all of you, and the rest of our country. It becomes a whole different story when you loose your blood, and this is an example of just that. Huey, my cousin, you are gone before I ever had the chance to know what a beautiful person you were, and I regret that we never had the chance to see each other or speak before this awful event. You will be forever missed Huey, loved and forever glorified."

"Dear Mr. and Mrs Fassbender,
I am James A Cruz I served with your sun when he was stationed in Saudi Arabia, I knew him well, It is a great loss to lose such a great soldier and friend. I had a lot of great times with him while serving with him in saudi and i am deeply sadden to hear of his death. I wish i could say something that would help with the pain, but i know that will not do. So i will say this" Thank you for allowing me to know such a great soldier, and for being able to share a part of his life with me and my family and fellow soldiers" he will be greatly missed but never forgotten, for when i tell my kids of my travels around the world he will be spoke of, for i have lost soldiers also, but none are forgotten. for as long as i breath, his name will be uttered to all i know of what a great soldier and friend he is. "First of all I want to say I'm shocked! I didn't know about this until I was surfing CNN's website tonight. I was in basic training with Fassbender @ Ft. Benning back in the day. We were in the same platoon (2nd Plt. Alpha 219). He wasn't my best friend but I did talk to him quite a bit and I thought he was a pretty good old boy. My favorite memory of him was when he would stand on the end of someone's bunk and crow like a rooster to wake them up, he was cool. I haven't spoken to him since then but I want to say my heart goes out to his family and friends."

Please try to comfort one another and know that all over America and the world, you are in our thoughts, tears and prayers. As an Air Force veteran, it was hard being away from my family and friends and I knew that there was always the possibility of having to make the greatest sacrifice but I found enormous pride and self-fulfillment in serving such a great country.
