"Dear Josh,
As I stood on hill, in the cold blustery wind, spreading your ashes with your mom's, I thought of the last time i saw you at your mom's funeral on a hot desert day. What brought me peace was at last, you would see your Mom's smile again.
Thank you for your service Josh, for your honor, for your dignity, for just being you. I miss you.

"Semper Fi
Twenty five, Im nineteen.
Does freedom become concrete with a metal bird?
I regret not tapping my beer with yours,
We never got to ride the waves or sit on shore
Does freedom become reality with a uniform?
You and I are from the same place.
Could we have gone to the same schools?
I have a sister, a brother
Did you have siblings? Were you a father?
You meant so much to others where did you go?
Is freedom a statue, a flag? A place?
Lance Corporal we could have been friends.
You left us and I miss what I never knew.
What could have been is something I grasp at,
Your voice what did it sound like?
Im sure your parents dont sleep.
The only picture I know is a stern stare from a uniform.
Josh we never got the chance to toss the football
We never Hi fived or shook hands.
Can you tell me does freedom come true when you fire a gun?
I like watching baseball and hockey
Cheesy horror films and good old classics are the only movies for popcorn
What is your favorite movie? Favorite cereal?
Who was your greatest love?
Freedom is a man, a loss, your laughter, my smile, the love for one another.
Josh, Im Thomas. And I wish I could have known you,
and even though I will never meet you, I loved you
Your service, your dedication,
You are among the few, you have the right to be proud."
Thomas Anderson of New Port Richey

"I never want to forget the sacrifices of so many young men and women. I am so proud it makes me cry at times. I understand, in theory only, that war is a part of human nature but so is love and caring. I wish I could take your families and friends pain away but I can't. I am committed to loving ALL people, myself and our environment. I am committed to working on my happiness everyday because so many have died for my freedom to live my life. Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. All my love and respect. ogersteiner@yahoo.com

"Dickinson,

That is how I knew you when you and I were over there we didn't see each other that off once or twice a week. You were a great Marine and a good friend. Something I thought you would find kinda funny I still have the lighter you let me borrow the day before you went out on that last patrol. I actually had an incident at an airport because of it, evidently you are not supposed to have a lighter with while going through security. You would have laughed though I told them they wouldn't take it off me without a fight so they escorted to my flight by a back entrance so I could hold on to that lighter. I will never forget you man John 15:13 you are one of the many reasons I was and am proud to call myself a Marine"

"Dear Josh, I know we really didn't know eachother very well, but I would like to thank you very much for making the ultimate sacrifice for our country. You went into that hellhole and fought with courage and dignity and I am very proud to call you my cousin. There isn't a day that goes by that goes by that I don't think of you and the example you set for people and I.You fought with steadfast dedication, courage, and bravery.I remember my mom(your cousin Kari)burst into tears after she heard you got a shrapnel wound.I wasn't concerned because I knew you were headstrong, swift, lucky from the 4-leaf clover Grams sent you,and would go back to the action as soon as you could. You wrote in a letter to Grams(your aunt Sandi) that even though you got your head shaved, you still drove those Iraqi women crazy. From some of the stories I've heard about you, I believe that!I'm thinking about joining the service myself (maybe a heavy machine-gunner, handling big weapons is freakin' awesome). With your example you set for me, I know the type of courage it takes to be at least a "decent" soldier at least. You, on the other hand, were a magnificent marine and I will never forget you.I will take care of Caylie every time I see her And watch over her whenever she comes down to Tennessee. Do me a favor and put in a good word for me with God and Jesus. Okay?I'll miss you and will see you in heaven very soon!"

"I am proud to say that I shared one of the proudest moments of Joshua's life with him when I, and my daughters, attended his Marine Corp. Boot Camp graduation. This was the last time I would see my cousin. He stood so tall and proud! I gave him the biggest hug and kiss, and told him how VERY PROUD I was of him as I cried with Pride and Joy! He was one of the most compassionate and caring people, and always put others before himself. He was a Very handsome Marine as well. I will forever miss him, but will always be proud to say He is my blood. He was a true Heroe and will always be remembered for that! I did not attend his services because I wanted to remember that special moment at his Marine Corp. graduation. He was so very Proud. There are no words to express how very proud he truely was. You could look into his eyes, and with a wonderful Smile, see the Pride he had. He looked me in the eyes and told me that he made it, and was Proud to be a Marine, and able to fight for the things he believed in! He was very happy to see that we attended one of the proudest moments of his life( second only to the birth of his daughter in Tenessee) I know his Mother (my Aunt Linda) would have been Very Proud as well!!!! She had alot of Love and respect for her 3 children. Now he is with his Mother (and I am sure) very Happy right now. He will live forever in our Hearts. A Truely Wonderful Heroe! I Love You Joshua. Thank you for all the cherished memories Cuzz. We Miss you, and will always Love and, respect you for the man you became."
