"Travis,
I have never been able to muster the words to write you or visit your grave. I remember back when we were sitting in that room, being interviewed for the job in Washington and you told me that you joined to fight. So you turned it down. I can't help but think if I had said something different perhaps you would have accepted that duty, and you'd still be alive. I relive that moment everyday and you haunt my dreams relentlessly. You will never know how sorry I am that I let you down."

"I donated money today to a few young army men who will be leaving for Iraq on 1/2008 to attend the war - the money was to help pay for plane tickets to visit back home if and when they are given a chance for a leave of rest. As part of a Thank You for my donation I was given a replica of one of your Dog Tags and the men showed me a picture of you and told me a little bit about you and how you became a "Fallen Hero." I listened to what they had to say and as I walked away I felt good about what I had done and I wanted to tell everyone around me about you...as I showed your Tag I read off your name and dates...we were born in the same year and I graduated high school the year of your tragedy; in all the time the men spoke of you I never recall me actually listening for an age, I guess you can call me nieve in the sense that I never expected you to be so young nor go so soon for something so new to an 18 yr old boy fresh from home. I have been overwhelmed all day with the thought of your family's grief and I can only imagine the pain and suffering they have been through along with the proud feelings they have had about such a wonderful person as you. I know you will never get to sit in front of a computer screen and read this but I like to believe you can see every word I speak to you through the Heaven's above...Thank You from the bottom of my heart for the loss you took for our country, so that we may go on day in and day out living our lives as though nothing in world can harm us as long as we have the few good men left standing that honor this country as yourself did! I will wear your Tag everywhere I go from this day forward and I promise to you that I will make people aware of your story! God Bless you and your family!!

"To the family of Travis Desiato. My name is Peyton Munafo, im 20 and i attend The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. Yesterday, our JOMI told us the story about your son in my NROTC class. Though i never knew your son, i soon found myself with tears streaking down my face as our Capt. read the account. I just wanted to let you know that the sacrifice your son made has made me want to be a Marine even more. I feel it is my duty as an American to follow in the path your son created. I can not comprehend the pain you must feel, but i want you to know that we do care..we do grieve with you. Your son was a hero...and I will never forget him as long as i live.
Very Respectfully,
C/Sgt. Peyton C. Munafo
