"Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay that day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task undone must stay that way.
I found peace at the close of the day.
If my parting left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with time of sorrow.
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one touched.
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,
but don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free!"

"To the Family of Seargeant Gabriel DeRoo:
Please accept our sincere sympathies for the loss of your son, Sgt. Gabriel DeRoo. His bravery and service to our country is deeply appreciated. Every Memorial Day weekend our church asks us to take a card from a basket wich contains the names of fallen soldiers and our family chose Sgt. DeRoo's name. Please know that he will be in our prayers this Memorial Day weekend, especially. As parents of a 10 year old son and an 8 year old daughter we can not even begin to understand the loss you feel. What we do know is how proud we, as Americans, are for your son's service to our country. We thank him for his service and will pray for him every day. God bless you all."
