"Sgt acklin was an upstanding and professional soldier, I had the opportunity to know him personally and he set an example for my path to find Christ and truly accept him into my heart, and ultimately his words and deeds were my salvation.
Often in the last 10 years during my darkest times coping with ptsd and healing from that place far away and long ago mike would take center stage in my thoughts, his selfless dedication to sharing the Lord w others often more by deed than word was what ultimately pulled me out of my darkest days after iraq and inspires me to live a life grounded in ethics and morals, motivated to succeed and inspired to always lend a helping hand or kind word just as he set an example of every day. His sacrifice will never be forgotten by the souls he inspired.

Your legacy lives on brother
Walk with God till we meet
Again."

I was that which others did not want to be.
I went where others feared to go,
And did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing from those who gave nothing,
And reluctantly accepted the thought of
Eternal loneliness…should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror;
Felt the stinging cold of fear;
And enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped…but most of all,
I have lived times others would say were best forgotten
At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was…

"Michael is not forgotten, but rather remembered by those who knew him and loved him. I did not know Michael, but I honor him, and his sacrifice that he made to make sure that We sleep safer each night, and so our children can grow up with pride and honor in our country. We are a privlaged nation to have such fine men and women serving in the armed forces that are brave enough to take on the responsiblity of keeping us safe. I am very sorry you lost him, but please know that he has touched many. My children and I pray every night that God holds the hand of every service man and woman overseas, and on the homefront- and lets them know that we love them and are greatful for them and all they do. We hope that Michael felt this love and loyalty we had for him, although we never met him. I am truly sorry, and know that nothing will make the pain go away or make your days any brighter without him. I guess I am just trying to say thank you. Thank you for your sacrafice also. It is the most precious gift he could have given, and he did so with honor and dignity. God Bless you. God bless Michael."

"Today, is Christmas day at my home, with all of my loved ones here. The joy of being with them, surrounded by love....THIS Christmas is the most memorable of all....because of a soldier I never knew, until this day.... I have 2 sisters; bound are we in our hearts, just like any brother or sister....and bound are we in our hearts, to ALL who have fought to ensure that our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA be known and remembered as the greatest country in the world....Before we all sat down to enjoy the holiday together, one of my sisters handed me and my other sister a beautiful, little silk bag, and enclosed in each bag were I.D. bracelets of fallen heroes with their name and where they lived and the date of when they died. My bracelet reads SGT. MICHAEL D. ACKLIN KY. ARMY IRAQUI FREEDOM 15 NOV. 03 KIA and from this day forward, I will wear it always, in honor of him, a soldier I do not know, a person I did not know, and it is the best and most precious gift I have ever and will EVER receive for all my days....I wear it proudly....For all the world to see....MAY GOD BLESS THE ACKLIN FAMILY; BOUND ARE WE IN OUR HEARTS, FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE...."

"Through the shadow of the night and the sunlight of the day they stand up and fight for what they know to be right… they lay down and die for this same right they hold true to there hearts always willing to pay this high price…. But if we are asked what freedom means to us… we know it was our brother or son, husband , friend, cousin, our daughter, sister , or mother the one we stayed up night after night preying they would come home safe and finally the call, the knock on the door that this was not meant to be… and all our dream are set free … set free for another life… another time when we will all reunite…. And we the few we know the true price to freedom…. We know with every tear we cannot forget those who did not make it home… So we live with them in our hearts everyday and know that we will meet again some day.. To all of you how know what freedom is… don’t give up… we will never forget them… if you wish to contact me to just talk or whatever in this time of need prinzel010103@yahoo.com ….. "SGT Michael Acklin was one of the kindest guys you'd ever meet in life. He always had a positive attitude, and would give his buddies something to smile about. I wish he were still with us, but I know that he was a man of God, and that he will live on in Heaven. God bless you, Michael."

"My brother was in the Army and i intend to join as soon as i've finished school. And although my brother and I weren't very close when he left to join, it hurt a lot and i missed him everyday. My brother and i are now very close, he's one of my best friends and my role model.
I can only imagine how it is for you.
I know words don't really help with the pain, but i'm sorry for you loss. I'm also thankful for your loss because he gave his life to save us.
Just like Jesus did.
I hope that when i join the Army i can be half the soldier Michael was, and all the other brave soldiers who gave, and will give their lives for their country and families.
I hope to God that i will be half the soldier."

"The Final Inspection"

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?
"The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
" There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.""

"It is a shame that we lost SGT Acklin and just hard to believe. He was one of the best soldiers I knew when we were both in 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery at Fort Campbell, KY. SGT Acklin made every army value possible which includes Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. He has got to be in a better place as God was always number one in his life. He didn't even live in the barracks. I couldn't believe that he lived in a church off-post, until I gave him a ride one day.
The only other thing I can say is that I am glad to have served with this man, a true friend, a real hero."

"To the family and friends of Sgt. Michael Acklin II:
I am saddened by the loss of your loved one. He will always be remembered as a hero for fighting for freedom. I hope that this website will be a source of comfort and encouragement for you during this difficult time, and in the future as you recall the memories of Michael, who continues to live on in your heart."
