"I'd like to let all visitors to this site know about an event taking plce on Saturday, June 14 (Flag Day) in Topeka, Kansas called The Reading. Volunteers will be reading the names of the fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan. We'll each be reading a page of 50 names - first name, middle initial, last name, date of death and home state. After each name a bell will toll. The event is expected to take approximately 6 hours to complete. It's important the families and friends know of this event in memory of their loved one. Your loved one and friend has not been forgotten. My condolences to all of you grieving the loss of your loved one.

"Clint Prather we miss you very much.This is one of many stories. I remember when you got your first car as a junior in high school and how happy you were. You made payments on it but it was yours. Your stepdad asked you if you knew how to check the oil and you pop up yes I know!!!!! Well it wasn't long before your car came limping home and asked Dave what could be wrong? Dave asked have you been checking the oil? Oh yes it is still full!!!!!
Well Dave went outside with you and asked you to show him how you checked it. You showed him but it was the wrong dip stick, it was to the transmission. Dave showed you where the oil stick was and when he pulled it out, it was bone dry. Well you ended up with another bill for a rebuild engine. It was a hard way to learn but later we had a good laugh about it. Our memories of you will never dim. You are in our hearts. It still is hard to believe that you have been gone almost 3 years April 6th 2008.

"Lt. Walker, because of the circumstances that took place while we both served abroad with the same company out of Ft. Lewis, I never told you how much you inspired me to be a better person.

What I mean is, when our company advanced forward on other missions, your platoon stayed behind for other missions, and during that period you converted the old Medic Room into a dayroom for your troops. Even though there was already a morale tent available, you decided to establish a morale room closer to your troops. Because of your dedication to your troop?s well being, is why you were different from other leaders in our unit or in the military as a whole.


I know you knew how bad the morale was for the troops serving under a failed leadership in 864th. But, regardless of what some leaders out 864th were doing, you chose to make a difference by leading by example of how a leader should lead there troops during combat.

If it wasn't for my mistakes and the circumstances that were before me while serving abroad in combat, I would not have seen what you did before you departed from us. I did not know you as much as your troops knew you but of the time I did get to know you, like I said you inspired me and showed me not all leaders out 864th are ate up to the toe up. I was very bitter about what our command were doing to the morale and of what they were doing to themselves.

That is one reason why I donated my T.V. I bought for me at first and left at the Morale Room you established for your troops, and also that is why I honored you at the memorial service that took place in Bagram Air Field.

To the Walker family, I hope this message has brought some understanding of what took place while your daughter was serving abroad in combat with honor.

Lt. Walker, I will miss you always and you will never be forgotten!

After 911 and the war started I wrote a tribute song called "FALLEN HEROES" in honor of our
fallen soldiers, police, and firemen who have lost their lives serving our great country.
Fallen Heroes has recieved radio airplay in our tri-state area and was the #1 requested song on WISH radio
for 2 months. Also, Fallen Heroes was performed in Washington D.C. for the Vice President, and was used
for 2 anniversary dedication ceremonies at crash site of 'Flight 93' in Shanksville Pa.
In the past i have used my talent and resources to raise money for numerous charities and events and in
my small way have tried to due my part to help at least a little. Currently I am turning my efforts to the Wounded Warrior Project
and am going to use Fallen Heroes to try and raise funds for this organization.
While listening to your show it occured to me that if you could take 3 minutes of your time to play the song for your listeners
it may drive traffic to the website that I have constructed for this purpose.
While there, they may purchase a copy of Fallen Heroes and help me in my efforts.

"Two soldiers showed up this morning to tell my sister that her son had died. He was 21 years old. He was a casualty of war in Iraq. It's only a few hours later and we don't know the details. He was a soldier and now he is a hero. There are no words and I don't understand why. We will take care of each other here. But I just don't understand and I can't stop crying for him. I know time will heal and help. It began snowing this afternoon. Within a few hours of us learning that you were no longer with us. It doesn't snow much in Georgia. It's 7 PM and it's still snowing. "Fernando, I have read some of your messages and think that it is great you still do this. I know you how much you miss your brother and how bad it hurts. Justice and him were very close. Too bad he never got close to his own son. I think that it is great that you named your son after him. That is a great tribute. "My brother died almost four years ago serving our country and so I truely know that pain and pride every familly member and friend of a fallen soldier feels. I also find it very disheartening that not everyone understands or appreciates the sacrifice that all our service members endure. Some give all, but all give some! Recently I discovered a song by Lonestar that makes me cry everytime I hear it but also gives me hope, that there are still people in this country that know the extreem sacrifice that every soldier gives for our freedom. The songs title is Somebody's Someone and I ask everyone to listen to this song...even if you do not like or listen to country music...even if you are afraid that it will make you cry too, and especially if you DO or DO NOT personally know someone that has died serving our country. If you like the song and it's message please pass the song's name onto others, because it has a very important message and it was "buried" on thier cd, I've never even heard it on the radio.

All generations unfold,
and time seems to stand still,
as it waits for another fallen soldier
up here on the third floor.
For some life just seems to fade away slowly,
while others just slip away in a moment.
Then there are those who are fortunate to go home,
and those who have made this their home
up here on the third floor.
And yet!
We also see comrades,
Even if their paths cross for the first time,
Prove that the bond which only soldiers share,
Can still hold strong
Up here on the third floor.
Then when we see in amazement,
an aged unfortunate soldier,
appreciate his life,
and then feel bad for those who are less fortunate.
We cannot compare ourselves,
for the true meaning of a soldier's heart
is deeply shown
up here on the third floor.
When we see these fighting soldiers
set aside their dignity,
Accept the help they need,
without the feeling of defeat,
they define the true meaning of a soldier's inner strength
up here on the third floor.
When an almost helpless soldier who just seems to shine
throws a glowing smile your way,
it is meant for you to catch.
If you catch it with your heart,
You are beyond blessed,
For this is a true gesture of one's pride given to you,
From someone so very special
Up here on the third floor.
Even now when age and health issues are catching
Up to these brave soldiers,
and they share unbelievable stories with us about
past experiences,
we cannot help but have deep emotions of respect.
For they show us the true meaning of courage
then and now.
Up here on the third floor.
We see fully aware but cannot move,
we see some staring into space,
we see some who are just ready to go.
We see some who are just function with routine,
and those who really don't know what's next.
We see those who are terminal, but enjoy each day they have.
We see those who just deal with the situation,
we see those who display how proud they are of themselves,
we see those who seem happy all the time
and those who, plain and simple, love seeing others has fun.
We see all sorts,
so we shall continue to serve them,
as we are honored and proud
to be part of their lives
up here on the third floor.
When we are with these wounded soldiers day after day,
and share kind caring moments together,
we develop so many small relationships,
So many different relationships,
for these times are treasured.
We hope and look forward to having another moment with them
up here on the third floor.
Sometimes we will see soldiers that are very concerned
about themselves while hanging onto the new day they have.
They really do not want to be alone,
so they reach out to others.
If we are paying attention,
This should remind us how being close to the ones we love
Is so very important,
For no one really wants to be alone,
Not even
Up here on the third floor.
Once in awhile we have the privilege of meeting that
Remarkable soldier,
who through his cheerful good nature and
Endless unconditional thoughtfulness toward others
seems to capture our attention and
throughout the entire hospital,
Brings contentment and joy to everyone he encounters
up and beyond the third floor.
When we see those who pass on,
our hearts glorify them for their bravery and commitment,
they gave for our freedom.
So with faith and hope we pray that they, themselves,
Find freedom in heaven, after leaving

"My husband, Steve and I never had the pleasure of actually meeting Eric, however, we did connect via e-mail after we adopted his beloved dog, Hannah. Eric e-mailed us and told us many helpful things about Hannah. He also told us how much he loved her and that it gave him great piece of mind knowing she was in a good home with us.
We have made Hannah part of our family along with our two German Shepherds. She is spoiled rotten, just like she was meant to be.
We keep in constant contact with Eric's mom and step-dad. Through Eric's wonderful dog, we have met many wonderful people, all sharing in the love of Eric.
We hoped some day to return Hannah to Eric. Unfortunately, that day will have to wait longer than we thought. But Hannah and Eric will meet again some day and they will toss the soccer ball around again, like old times.
Steve and I are proud to report that Hannah was recently named National Pet Therapy of the Year 2007! Hannah will be honored in Williamsburg, VA in Oct.
We are so proud of her and this National honor is something Eric would be so proud of too.
Recently Eric's mother gave us Eric's bandana, which Hannah will wear at the awards ceremony. So Eric will be there too!!
God bless Eric, we know you are watching over us. You seem to show up at the just the right times, an eagle gliding in the beautiful blue sky. Your big bear is doing just fine!!"

He actually was a childhood buddy of my beloved wife. SSG Robert Hernandez was killed in action doing what he felt was right. Standing up to bullies isn't easy and most will never understand what drives certain souls to muster up the courage to do so but men and women like Robert do it just because it's their nature to be defenders. I am a 7th grader at a Christian shool. I have lived without saying much about this war for years, or supporting it in any way, and recently,I had the great opprotunity to present a chapel (which is sort of like an assembly) in honor of all those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan to my school. Thrilled with the idea, my classmates and I spent half a year studying about why we fight, until we came up with a presentation. In our school now, and as part of the presenation, my classmates and I have planted a Parrotia Persica, which is a tree native to Iraq and Afghanistan in memory of all those who have died in this war! We prayed around the tree, specifically for those who have died, and their families.
We used this site as a referance, and we have posted on our school, the names of all those who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Everyday, my fellow classmates, and my teachers take time, to stop on their way to class, and read some of the names of those who have died. We have prayed about them, and you. Thank you for your great sacrifice!

He was killed in Iraq early in the war and she died trying to survive this world without him. The had a child who she decribed as her angel and all that kept her going. She couldn't deal with the getting on with her life without him. She tried and tried and nothing she could do would make it any better. We tried to help her. Although, now I'm not sure any of us did enough. I know that my neice has now lost both of her parents to this war. And I'm still confused about the reasons for this war but whatever they are the human cost of war is just way to HIGH to justify. Memorial Day was hard since we have added to our list ot mourn and this couple would have celebrated 5 years of marriage last Friday. so much has changed in those 5 years. I miss them both and will always remember the sacrifice. But I'm afraid, for me and my family, the price of Iraqi freedom may be WAY TOO high."

"On this Memorial Day, I would like to take a moment to reflect upon our American heroes who gave their all in pursuit of a greater mission that, perhaps, will never be understood by all. I would like to thank all those who continue to serve and who continue to carry out the mission of preserving freedom everywhere. It is also important for me to recognize and thank all the families who have also made the ultimate sacrifice. What many don't comprehend is that the families, too, sacrifice so much. I had a wonderful friend who, God rest her soul, was a war widow. Her husband was killed in Iraq, and then she passed away shortly thereafter. Anyhow, I recall her painful sufferings of losing him. She was dealing with the fact that he was never coming back; she was going through all the stages of emotions that come with mourning the loss of a spouse. She felt guilt because she always wondered if there was ever anything she could've done differently, or things that should've been said. But I assured her that her feelings were natural because although not many people admit it, there are certain regrets when a loved one is gone. I told her to focus on the good times they shared; the wonderful life he lived and the legacy he left behind. Sadly, my precious friend endured many more hardships after losing her husband to the war. She began to be attacked by a cruel individual who said many negative things about my friend and about her marriage. She never thought that after such sacrifice, people could be so mean. Afterall, what right did they have to write about her or her late husband if they didn't know the couple's relationship on a personal level? Again, I prayed with her and told her to forgive what had been done against her and to her husband's memory. But the bottom line is, this couple loved each other to no end and in such a way that nobody else could ever understand. Of course no marriage is perfect. They all have their ups and downs. Good times and bad times. My friend is no longer here, but I am here to say that her husband served with great nobility. He was a great father and husband who loved his wife and his child dearly, and my friend was a wonderful woman who loved her husband and child very much, no matter what anyone has to say. She suffered everyday because no matter what, she had to be strong for her child; she had to deal with being alone; she hurt so much just knowing that her child was now without a father. Her heart broke when she'd see her child crying for daddy. I still recall going with her to the cemetary one day to visit her husband. She was so devasted that she fell to the ground at his grave and pounded the ground in tears yelling "wake up ... please come back to me!" I can't express how that made me feel. But what I knew for sure was that she was suffering and dying inside. That is why it infuriates me knowing that people can be so ill-willed to say awful things about people when they don't even know the true sufferings of these family members. I will not let this Memorial Day pass without acknowledging the family members who have lost a loved one. To all the war widows out there, keep your heads up. Deployments were never and are never easy on a marriage nor on a family, but stay focused on what really matters. Your wonderful memories. Life is too short. Life is like a short breath. It comes and then suddenly goes. So with all this said, thank you to all who have given your all. Thank you to all who continue to serve and make personal sacrifices for our country. And thank you to all the war widows out there. No matter what anyone has to say, good or bad, many people are grateful and many know you are suffering. Give yourselves and your babies a big hug on behalf of American citizens who are sincerely grateful for your sacrifice. Peace be with you all."

"Doreen?s Dad?s Funeral

At Doreen?s Dad?s funeral I had a revelation of the Lord.

As Pastor Bill was giving words of comfort for the family I felt the compassion in his voice over the service, over the people and I prayed for comfort for Doreen?s family and for Pastor Bill giving the word. And then I experienced the compassion of the Lord for all the people there.

I was sitting at the back with several older Military Veterans in front of me.
I was overcome with feelings for all the stories in each person?s life attending the funeral. All the hopes and dreams and heartaches in each one?s life, all the silent stories and memories they were carrying from childhood to that present moment. Memories of Doreen?s dad, memories of their past experiences with their own fathers, memories of life and war, loves and hates and their own mortality, disappointments and shortcomings in life. At that moment I felt the Lord knows all the stores. He knows every single detail of their lives and feelings. The Lords? knowing had it all covered like a blanket, everyone in the whole room. And in the moments of pain and reflection that people were experiencing the Lord had it covered in grace and mercy. I felt His grace and mercy so warm and comforting like that blanket wrapping us all up in its protection and comfort.

One of the veterans overcome with emotions got up and hid himself behind some cabinetry while he regained his composure. And I prayed for him and his memories. And I prayed for all our service men and women, especially in Iraq. And I prayed for the 3,000 + families who had lost loved ones in Iraq. And I felt the God of Comfort had them all on His mind and in His heart. And I thanked God for all who had served their country, Doreen?s dad, the Veterans at the service and the young Service Men who folded the flag and played taps at the service. All the silent stories we do not know, but the God of grace and mercy has them all wrapped up in a blanket of grace and mercy. Thank you Jesus, thank you Father, thank you Holy Spirit.

I was driving in my van thinking about what a wonderful life we have. I know I am not alone in this feeling and sometimes a song like this can draw people together to convey something special. That is my hope and the reason for doing this project. "As I was looking over some of the posts . I came to a realization. I have five children now that are teenagers and I talk to my sons about serving their country as I have and my father before me. I can remember as a child of wanting to serve my country and wondered how he had felt; pretty soon I guess I will endure what he was feeling when I fought in the first Gulf War. I am proud to say with happy thoughts that my three sons are talking about going into the military and am so very proud to know that is what they want to do.
